Hirsel Ride-Out

Tuesday 8th August

The Hirsel Ride-Out is a combination of two of our previous Ride-Outs- Birgham and Leitholm. For many years we visited Birgham on the Wednesday night and Leitholm on the Friday night, but with the restructuring of Civic Week to make it more streamlined and to help with costs and flagging numbers on some of the rides, we decided to combine both rides on the Tuesday night, alternating each year which village we visit first. We also built in the Kids’ ride at the start of the Ride-Out giving the kids the chance to follow the Coldstreamer along the street past the crowds and this year for the first time to go with the cavalcade right up to the Hirsel House were we are welcomed each year by the Earl and Countess of Home. From here the main cavalcade will continue on to Leitholm via Castlelaw, Darnchester, Marlfield and up the Coal road to Leitholm. After laying a wreath at the War Memorial, the Coldstreamer and his cavalcade will enjoy some refreshments with the people of Leitholm, then after the reel is danced, the cavalcade will continue on to Birgham via Todrig, Whitrig and Fernyrig. The Coldstreamer will lay a wreath at the Birgham War Memorial before enjoying a well earned bite to eat and a drink with the people of Birgham, another reel will be danced before the Coldstreamer and his cavalcade leave for the return trip to Coldstream, via Haigsfield and Fireburnmill.

Start Time: 14.00 (to be mounted by 13.50)

Judging for the best turned out horse and rider on the childrens ride, will take place next to the Marshalls vehicles in the Lees at 13.30 – 13.45.
